A Single Snowflake in the Flurry of Life:

The world is busy. Full of its comings and goings, challenges and obstacles, good moments, bad moments, and every sort of moment in between ­– the world is a flurry of activity, of life that never ceases.

But what is one life in the scope of this active world?

As I near my college graduation I am faced with a challenging question: what am I to do in this world – this great flurry of activity – and I how do I fit in? I’ve known for quite some time now that I would like to write. Writing has always been a part of my life – so intricately woven into the very fabric of my being that it is impossible to imagine myself doing anything else. But for so many others who share this ambition, writing has left them penniless and dismayed. So many have failed to achieve their writing goals and are left sitting in the coffee shops serving those much more successful than themselves instead of drinking the coffee as they work away on their next great novel. It’s a scene like this which often wakes me in the middle of a night, or which keeps me from finding any sleep at all. My dream is to write, but to write successfully. How does one go about it?

So what makes a successful writer? The ability to tell a good story? A good education? Chance? Luck? Any combination of the above?  After years of studying the lives and works of some of the most famous and successful writers in history, I still know no more about how to become successful than I did when I was a little girl turning in my first story to my elementary school teacher, smiling with the happy thoughts of her reading something that had been written by my own hand.

So, in following with the current trend of blogging, I have decided to chronicle my journey. I’ve no idea where I will end up, but my goal is still the same: to become a successful writer. My blog will record my failures and (hopefully) my successes. It will be the journey of one life trying to fit in with the flurry of activity which characterizes this world. It will be the story of a single snowflake dancing in the flurry of life.
