  • The 40% discount for our Red Clay Writers Conference alone more than makes up for the $30 price tag. Additionally, you receive free monthly workshops, access to a library of past workshops, a free subscription to our weekly Substack, access to our scholarships and grant opportunities, and more membership perks are in the works. The estimated value of all of these perks is $200, along with the priceless opportunities to win a scholarship.

  • The best place to find all your perks as a Georgia Writers Member is to visit the Members section of the website, where you will find discount codes, free workshops, scholarship opportunities, and more. You will also periodically receive emails with workshop information, etc.

  • Thank you so much for supporting your literary community! We appreciate your support and are happy to have you along for the ride. If you paid for your membership between the dates of April 17th and May 22nd, feel free to contact us via email (administrator@georgiawriters.org) to find out what discounts are available for you.

  • Head to the Member section of our website. Login using the credentials you created to sign up for our membership (there are options to find your password, etc. if you are unsure). One logged in, you will see the Member page, and at the bottom right hand corner, you will see a button labeled 'Your Account'. Once you click on that button, an account information popup screen will allow you to check/change your membership/billing

  • You can make a tax-deductible donation to help our 501(c)(3) nonprofit Georgia Writers (EIN 58-6044843) continue providing the best writing advice, workshop experiences, and connect writers across Georgia and beyond.

    Donations can be done through our website, or through our GiveButter.

  • All of our Georgia Writers Members receive access to our weekly Substack at no additional cost. If you would like to sign up for Substack without a membership, please do so here, where you will be directed to a page to choose your Substack subscription.

  • Our Substack ‘houses’ our three Writers-in-Residence. These writers of various genres offer tips and details related to writing, editing, publishing, and everything in between. Notable Substack writers include Emma Bolden, Jessica Handler, Tony Grooms, Amy Pence, Kurt Milberger, and many others!

    Our current Substack writers-in-residence are Andrea Jurjevic, Tony Grooms, and Kurt Milberger.

  • Through the fall and spring seasons, Georgia Writers hosts talented writers who provide tips and writing workshops in their respective genres. Previous notable writing workshops hosts include Andrew Joseph White, Emma Bolden, Chantel Acevedo, Cinelle Barnes, and many more!

    These workshops are $15 per session, but if you are a Georgia Writers Member, you receive free tickets to all of our Writing Workshops.

  • Our workshops run periodically in the fall and spring, and typically occur from 12PM - 2PM. You can find the link to sign up for the workshops on our homepage, social media pages, and/or our Eventbrite. If you are a Georgia Writers Member and/or have signed up for our newsletter, you will receive updates via email and in the Members section of our website.

  • Georgia Writers Registry is a talent hub that lists many amazing Georgia writers who are published and available for events hosted by local Georgia organizations. If you are a published writer living in Georgia, apply (for free) today to be considered for multiple speaking events throughout the year. Joining the Registry also allows other organizations/bookstores/businesses to find you more easily, increasing your opportunities for promotion. (Be sure to check the qualifications for acceptance before submitting.)

  • Red Clay Writers Conference is the annual conference of Georgia Writers Association. Each year this conference gathers the Georgia writing community together for a day full of panels and workshops on a variety of genres and topics.

    Notable past conference guests include Tayari Jones, Mayra Cuevas, Carmen Deedy, and many more!

  • The 2025 Red Clay Writers Conferencehas not yet been scheduled, but you can expect to see more information about the date and location in the coming fall.

    Georgia Writers members receive a 50% discount code for the conference.

    Registration for the 2025 Red Clay Writers Conference will open in Spring 2025.

  • Georgia Writers’ John Lewis Writing Grants are inspired by the late civil rights icon and his more than three decades of service as Georgia’s 5th District representative. The John Lewis Writing Grants are awarded annually in the categories of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. The purpose of the grants is to elevate, encourage, and inspire the voices of Black writers in Georgia.

  • Literary Event Grants of Georgia (LEGG) supports writers’ fees for literary events in underserved communities across the state. Literary events include readings, workshops, presentations, and performances. We provide grants of $50-$250 for a literary event. We strongly encourage organizations to match our payments to writers, but this requirement may be waived if there are extenuating circumstances. To support as many literary events as possible, we generally grant no more than $500 to organizations during the course of our fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

    Applications for LEGG are accepted on a rolling basis.

  • Georgia Writers is partnering with the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown, MA to award a scholarship to a Georgia Writers member to participate in a week-long summer workshop at FAWC. The scholarship winner will pay no tuition and be provided housing and a travel stipend to participate in a week-long workshop in creative writing.

    The 2024 FAWC Scholarship has been granted. We will begin accepting new applications for 2025 in the spring. Thank you!

  • The Georgia Author of the Year Awards celebrates the best literature by Georgia writers.

    Georgia Writers Association assumed responsibility for the Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) shortly after its founding in 1994. The awards were first given in 1964 by the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists. Published authors from Georgia are eligible for nomination. Awards in a variety of categories are announced and presented in June at the GAYA ceremony.

    Prominent winners of the GAYA include Malcolm Tariq for his poetry collection Heed the Hollow (2019); Ruby Lal, for her biography Empress (2018); Nic Stone for her novels Dear Justyce (2020) and Jackpot (2019); Natasha Trethewey for her memoir Memorial Drive: A Daughter’s Memoir (2020); Judith Ortiz Cofer, for her essay collection Woman in Front of the Sun (2000); Kaitlin B. Curtice for her inspirational book Native: Identity Belonging, and Rediscovering God (2020); and John Lewis for his graphic memoir March: Book Three (2016).

    We also recognize individuals with exemplary achievements and contributions in the writing industry with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Some notable winners include Tony Grooms, Valerie Boyd, Clarence Major, Pearl Cleage, and Sharan Strange.
